Girl Evangelists

Dolores Lee Dudley
(1913-)

Dolores Dudley was converted at age nine and then started to preach. Her theological training was hearing the Bible read to her by her mother, and attending three weeks of Aimee Semple McPherson’s summer Bible school for children when she was eleven. The highest words of praise about her speaking abilities were featured in her promotional materials. Her sermons (often an hour long) are called “masterpieces” and attributed to “divine inspiration.”

Her abilities were impressive enough that at age twelve she was invited to become pastor of a church in Cleveland, an offer which she turned down to stay on the revivalist circuit. Other similar offers came her way.
