Girl Evangelists

Kathryn Kuhlman
(1907-1976)

Kathryn Kuhlman came somewhat late on the scene as a girl evangelist, at age eighteen, though she continued to use the “girl evangelist” label even at age twenty-seven, long after most girls of that age had dropped the label or were modifying the label to read “former girl evangelist,” still nonetheless playing of the girl evangelist aspect of their reputation.

Although Kuhlman is better known as an adult faith healer, she had very close connections to the golden age of girl evangelists, starting her career in the middle of the period, using the girl evangelist label over the first decade of her preaching career, and enticing the manager and the pianist of the most noted girl evangelist of the period, Uldine Utley, to join her team.
